چکیده
Fast and stable post-fault recovery is an essential part of a fault clearing strategy in HVDC grids. As the may involve de-blocking converters, unwanted oscillations be noticed voltages currents. These occur at resonant frequencies, which stem from interaction between converter grid. Methods to identify grid resonances exist, but focus mainly on control interactions instead during transient conditions such as recovery. This paper provides method analyze process, discusses their origins proposes two methods mitigate these. It found that these are due incompatibility converter- grid-side DC voltage moment de-blocking, low damping characteristic frequencies. The first mitigation approach acts aspect avoids triggering by matching de-blocking. second increasing DC-side through controls. Time domain simulations have shown both effectively reduce seen system

HVDC Technology and Smart Grid
Smart Grid is much more than IT and smart meters. A SmartGrid is an electricity network that can intelligently integrate the actions of all users connected to it – generators, consumers and those that do both – in order to efficiently deliver sustainable, economic and secure electricity. This article first gives a background to HVDC Transmission Technology in general, and secondly describes how...

Increased bulk power transaction in competitive energy market together with large scale integration of energy resources. Control methodsfor grid-connected parameters are proposed here. The method could be generally applied for all gridconnected Parameter but may be of most importance in high-voltage dc (HVDC) applications. Different from the other control methods, the proposed method utilizes t...
متن کاملDC Fault Ride-through Capability and STATCOM Operation of a HVDC Hybrid Voltage Source Converter
HVDC transmission systems are becoming increasingly popular when compared to conventional AC transmission methods. HVDC voltage source converters (VSC) can offer advantages over traditional HVDC current source converter topologies; as such, it is expected that HVDC-VSCs will be further exploited with the growth of HVDC transmission. This paper presents the DC fault ride through capability and n...
متن کاملThe Effect of Grid Topology on Transient Fault Currents in Multi-Terminal VSC-HVDC Offshore Networks
This paper investigates different network topologies of potential future DC offshore grids with respect to their impact on transient fault currents for permanent single pole-toground faults. Investigations are carried out on a twelve-terminal ±320kV VSC-HVDC network modeled around the physical topology of the North Sea. Results are obtained through EMTP simulations in PSCAD using a detailed, fr...
متن کاملRequirements for Fault Protection in HVDC Grids
Conventional Voltage Source Converters (VSC) cannot interrupt DC fault currents and DC circuit breakers are not yet commercially available for HVDC power ratings. Thus, the protection of VSC-HVDC systems is still an obstacle for the development of this technology. The features of VSC-HVDC systems make them suitable for implementing HVDC grids. Nevertheless, HVDC grids are more complex than poin...
